An ivory netsuke of a rocky landscape with three scenes from the Shûten Dôji tale, by Shôminsai. Mid-19th century

At the base Raikô’s troop of yamabushi meet a woman washing the bloody clothings of her parents who were devoured by Shûten Dôji; above them a yamabushi meets the three wise men on a promontory, who give advice on how to kill Shûten Dôji and show him the way, on the other side three demons await the yamabushi, one with a telescope. Signed Shôminsai with kaô.
