A wood netsuke of a shishimai mask, by Kizan. 19th century

The square face with bushy eyebrows and baring both rows of teeth with fangs, the mask cloth partly covering the left side of the mane which is tucked into the hollow of the mask on the reverse with an Okina mask lying on top, the narrow beard forming himotôshi. The eye pupils of black wood. Signed Kizan.
