A large boxwood netsuke of a carp leaping up a waterfall. Early 20th century

Ascending from foaming waves, the head ploughing through the cascading waters. The inside completely hollowed out. The eye pupils of black horn. Signed Masakiyo.
Height 5.3 cm

Sakai Masakiyo (1875-1955) followed the style of Suzuki Masanao of Ise. Masakiyo carved this subject several times following the design of Masanao (MCI, p. 459).
