Oil on canvas, relined 94 x 71.3 cm Framed. Signed 'Riester' lower right. On the reverse of the stretcher a label with Ludwig Roselius' collection stamp and handwritten numbers "208" and "252".

This "Halbakt" (Half-Nude) was previously part of the famous collection of the Bremen businessman and art patron Ludwig Roselius. Alongside his successful corporate career as founder of Kaffee HAG, he was also a sponsor of Worpswede artists such as Paula Modersohn-Becker and Bernhard Hoetger, and also supported the recognition of the Böttcherstraße in Bremen as a cultural monument.

The painting will be included in the complete list of works by Rudolf Riester currently under preparation; we would like to thank Lutz Riester, son of the artist, for his kind confirmatory information. He wrote us: "Early works are rare. In 1943 the studio in a residential building in the Knesebeckstraße [Berlin] was destroyed by a fire bomb."
