A figure of the Virgin and Child, Mechelen, circa 1500

Carved wood, the reverse flattened, remains of older polychromy. A full-length depiction of the standing Virgin holding the Child in both hands before her. The Child, wrapped in a cloth, faces his mother but has turned his head towards the beholder. The reverse of the sculpture bears the mark of the city of Mechelen.
Wear with losses to the plinth. Height 36 cm.
