A blue and white plate, painted with two standing phoenixes below a large peony blossom, surrounded by a border of fish scale decoration and five oval cartouches, each with two sprays of flowers. Zhangzhou (Swatow). Ca. 1610.

The plate is from the Binh Thuan ship wreck, sold at Christie’s Australia, Melbourne, 1 & 2 March 2004
The Binh Thuan Wreck was found in the south of Vietnam, around 65 km off the Province Binh Thuan and sank about 1608 AC. The on-board porcelain mainly came from Zhangzhou (Swatow).
