An ivory okimono of the painter Matabei holding up a hanging scroll with a represenation of Kinko Sennin sitting on a carp that comes to life and jumps out of the picture, around Matabei a tabakobon and a suzuri with an ink stick. The eye of the fish of mother-of-pearl, one pupil missing. Inscription at the back: Tosa Matabei meiga no zu Gesshû (after a famous painting by Tosa Matabei / Gesshû), inscription on the scroll: Matabei hitsu and seal Tosa. Some losses and crack. Late 19th century.
