A black raku chawan. Kyoto. Edo period

A Kyoto black raku chawan with an almost vertical body on a small, flattened foot with a black and porous glaze with areas reserved in light grey and a standing crane in white. Crack with restoration of silver. Edo period. Silk bag. Wooden box inscribed to the lid: Honami Kôetsu zô / Tachizuru zu / kuro chawan / jûgodai Yahei (15th generation Tamamizu Yahei), kaô and seal; inscription on the inside of the lid: Kôetsu zô kuro-raku tachitsuru chawan Murasaki Kanshû and kaô. A second wood box lacquered reddish brown.
