An ivory netsuke of Chinnan Sennin. 19th century

Standing with curly hair and clad in a ragged robe, holding an alms bowl from which emerges amidst clouds a huge two-horned dragon that coils around the figure’s shoulder. A flywhisk inserted into the sash at the back, shoulders and hips covered by a cape of mugwort leaves. The eye pupils of black horn, details of the carving stained for effect with black ink.
