A well worn boxwood netsuke of a pot-bellied Hotei. Late 18th century

Standing, supporting his bag of treasure on his head with the right hand, and lifting the edge of his robe with the left in order to wade through a stream.
Height 6.3 cm

Hotei wading through water is a theme in Edo period zenga and Kano school painting.
