Probably Main-Franconian Region circa 1500

A wooden figure of the Virgin enthroned, probably Main Franconian, circa 1500.

Carved three-quarters in the round from three blocks, the reverse flattened and hollowed out. The older polychromy extensively overpainted.. A figure of the Virgin seated on a broad throne, designed for a frontal viewpoint. With Her left foot extended and the right pulled back, She holds the nude Christ Child in Her lap with both hands. The Child holds a globe in His left hand and blesses with His right. The work's outline is largely defined by the composition of the Virgin's cloak, which falls from Her shoulders in generous, angular folds over Her knees and throne.
A vertical crack to the reverse, held together by an older iron staple, with minor additions to the shoulder and plinth around this area. Minor wear. Height 76 cm.
