Swabia late 15th century

A late 15th century Swabian carved wooden Anna Selbdritt group.

Probably limewood, carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse hollowed out. With older, partially overpainted and presumably partially original polychromy. A group designed for a frontal viewpoint, showing a matronly Saint Anne embracing her daughter Mary on the right and the Christ Child on the left. The youthful, crowned Virgin is depicted reading from a book and the Christ Child with His right hand raised in blessing. The work displays a harmonious, compact composition and a detailed scheme of drapery.
With minimal wear. Height 49 cm.
