Flemish early 18th century

An early 18th century Flemish carved wooden figure of an angel.

Carved in the round, the reverse only provisorily. Minor remains of former polychromy. A figure of an angel facing left. The sculpture's pained expression and folded arms point to a possible original placement as one of a pair of angels flanking the passion of Christ.
With minor wear. The plinth subsequently carved from the original substance. Height 57 cm.
