Northern France early 16th century

An early 16th century Northern French carved ivory high-relief crucifixion scene.

This heavily curved high-relief panel presumably originally functioned as a pax. The piece shows Christ on the cross flanked by the Virgin Mary and Saint John before a hatched ground and is bordered to the sides by slender solomonic columns supporting a late gothic serpentine arch.
With a breakage to the lower centre and four small, round drilled holes. 13.2 x 7.8 x 3.0 cm.
