German or Netherlandish 16th - 17th century

A German or Netherlandish ivory torso of a boy, 16th - 17th century.

Carved in the round. The torso of an ivory statuette of a nude, standing boy. The indentation beneath the neck could possibly be interpreted as the neckline of shirt. Probably a depiction of the Christ Child.
Severe damage to the surface. The face broken and reattached with glue. The arms and parts of the legs lost. The top of the head cut off. Mounted to a wooden socle. Height 15 cm (without socle).

West German private ownership before 1928. - Henceforth in a Rhenish private collection.
