A gold pectoral (karai). Southern India, Kerala. Late 19th/early 20th century

A Kerala gold pectoral (karai), worked in five pieces connected by hinges and with a clasp, displaying domed discs which decrease in size towards the clasp, and ornaments in twisted wire and granules and with a small stone pendant. Weight 322.7 g (including the shellac filling). Southern India. Late 19th/early 20th century.
