A gold pectoral. Southern India, Tamil Nadu. Late 19th/early 20th century

A Tamil Nadu gold pectoral, worked in five pieces connected by hinges and with a clasp. At the centre a large lion-mask (kirtimukha) with two dragons emerging from its mouth and six peacocks in repoussé, the details in engraving and stippling, three ruby-coloured glass stones. Weight 248.7 g (including the shellac filling). Southern India. Late 19th/early 20th century.
