View of Rome with the Tiber, Castel Sant'Angelo and St. Peter's Basilica

Oil on canvas. 49 x 98 cm.

This painting shows two of the most famous and fascinating buildings in the eternal city bathed in warm sunlight and towering far into the sky above the gently flowing Tiber and the bustling to-and-fro of the inhabitants. This was a particularly popular view of Rome, painted by almost every important veduta painter in the city, including Gaspare Vanvitelli, Antonio Joli, Giuseppe Zocchi, Vernet and many others.
