A French carved ivory figure of the Virgin Enthroned, first half 14th century.

Carved in the round.. The slender Madonna is shown seated on a tall, moulded throne with the clothed Christ Child by Her side. The infant Jesus kneels with one leg on Her thigh and holds His other leg lain across her whilst He grasps for the apple in Her hand. A small and exquisitely carved composition in ivory.
A vertical crack to the lower centre. Minor wear with a small loss to the Virgin's temple. Mounted on a flat, modern base. Height 7.5 cm (without plinth).
