A 15th century South German carved stone console with an architect's portrait.

Worked to the front, the sides smooth, the reverse left rough. The front with extensive remains of older polychromy.. A piece of architectural carving taken from a wall bond. The stone shows a high-relief portrait of a man in burgher's garb beneath an architectural border with lancet arches and trefoil tracery. The console's role as a building support allows for the interpretation of the figure as the portrait of an architect.
