A bamboo vase. Bambus. Late 17th century

A bamboo vase, the bamboo segment with two nodes, signed in ink Ryôan kashi Ki and kaô. Three large cracks with copper clamps, two iron clamps at the rim, wormage and remains of polychrome. Yellow cotton cloth and wooden box. Late 17th century.

Kishuso (1616-1696) was a monk and tea master in the Daishu'an subtemple of Ryôanji in Kyoto. He studied under the famous tea master Sen Sôtan and is said to have made bamboo tea spoons.
