A Tibetan silver offering mandala

A Tibetan silver offering mandala, embossed and chisseled, the circular base surrounded by representations of the four main continents flanked by the eight subcontinents, the three gilt circles with stone inlays, at the top a finial representing Mount Meru.
Diameter 18.5 cm (circular base)

This ritual implement is used in Buddhist monasteries for sacrificial offerings. It symbolizes a mandala-shaped image of the cosmos, in which mount Meru looms at the centre.
