A Bhutanese thangka of Guru Dragpo Marchen, a wrathful form of Padmasambhava, whose lower body takes the form of a ritual dagger, holding a vajra and a scorpion in his hands and his hair standing on end with a garuda, he is backed by an aureole of flames. Accompanied in the clouds above by Padmasambhava Guru Rinpoche, Buddha Amitabha, Shadakshari Lokeshvara, Milarepa and other gurus and lamas, protective deities below. Gouache on cloth. Brocade mounting. 18th/19th century. Framed.
