A 14k gold bracelet with a portrait of General von Versen

Designed as a white gold and yellow gold chain with a central gouache on ivory portrait miniature in a capsule frame with a diamond set bezel and a hairwork inset to the reverse. Stamped fineness 585, other illegible marks. The miniature monogrammed "v.K.M.". L 18 cm. Weight 24 g.

Maximilian von Versen (Gut Wurchow near Neustettin 1833 - Berlin 1893) was born into an officer's family in Pommern and forged a sparkling career in the Royal Prussian army, for which he was awarded the pour le mérite order in 1866, among many other prizes. He became General Adjutant Sr. M for Emperor William II, Commander General of the III army corps, member of the Landesverteidigungs-Kommission in Berlin and towards the end of his life he achieved the rank of cavalry general. He published two books describing his experiences in the South American war.
