A silver gilt chalice from St. Bartholomew's church in Kronstadt

One engraved with the donor's coat-of-arms, the other with a dedication in Latin dated 1703 and later extended in another hand "Pastore Andrea Bognero". H 25.5 cm, weight 714 g.
Marks of Kronstadt/Brassó, Petrus Hiemesch II or Petrus Hirschler, ca. 1703.

It is recorded that Andreas Bogner (1678 - 1749), a student of theology, took off on a "peregrinatio academica" to various German-speaking universities in late 1699 at the recommendation of his countryman Martin Schmeizel. When the plague broke out in Kronstadt in 1718, Bogner was called to preach there, and became pastor at Marienburg on 21st March 1724 (cf. Verók, Die frühen Spuren der hungarologischen Tätigkeit von Martin Schmeizel, in: Ungarn-Jahrbuch vol. 29, 2008, Forschungsberichte, p. 381.)
