An Italian ivory Corpus Christi, circa 1400

Carved in the round, with presumably original partial polychromy. An expressive depiction of Christ crucified with three nails. He is shown with His head hanging low to one side, and the finely modelled body turned at a slight angle to the parallel legs. The stigmata are accentuated with droplets of red blood.
The arms visibly pegged. The calves reattached. Wear with minor losses. Yellowed. Height 25 cm, width of arms 18.5 cm.
