Mechelen early 16th century

An early 16th century Mechelen wooden figure of the blessing Christ Child

Carved in the round and with the original polychromy. A figure of the nude Christ Child standing in contrapposto with His right hand raised in blessing and holding a globe in His left hand, designed for a frontal viewpoint. The original plinth is inscribed "SALVA NOS OMNES SALVATOR MVNDI."
The original pegged cross and orb lacking. Loosely mounted to the original plinth. Minimal wear. Height 31.5 cm (with base).
