A late 16th century French limestone figure of Saint George

Carved in the round. Minimal remains of former polychromy. A finely carved figure of the saint designed for a frontal viewpoint. He is shown dressed in armour, holding his sword in his right hand and with his head held aloft and slightly inclined. He stands in contrapposto, treading upon the crouching dragon with his extended left foot.
The tip of the dragon's snout missing, the tip of the sword replaced in wood. Wear with losses. Height 85 cm.
