A pair of small ivory wine cups. Dated 1933

A pair of small ivory wine cups, turned, and displaying the immortal Zhongli Quan seated on a tiger skin and two boys straining wine through a hemp head cloth in a landscape with trees in fine-line engraving stained black and red. Inscribed Ge jin lu jiu, dated cyclically guiyu (1933) and sealed Yuan. An incised lily branch to the inside. At the base an apocryphal four character mark Kangxi yu zhi. (2)

Dr. Lothar Biller (1907-2007), who was headmaster at the German school in Tianjin from 1934 to 1945 and recieved these objects in recognition of his services, and thence by descent
