A 13th century Spanish carved wooden figure of the Virgin enthroned

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. With older, partially retouched polychromy.. A crowned figure of the Madonna as "sedes sapientiae" seated on a throne in a frontal stance, presenting the forward facing figure of the Christ Child on Her lap. The hieratic stiffness of the pose is accentuated by the stylised drapery.
The Virgin's head reattached. Parts of the Child's torso and the Virgin's right hand lacking. With open vertical cracks, especially to the sides. Losses to the plinth due to insect damage. Height 43 cm.
