A Mechelen carved wooden figure of the Virgin and Child, circa 1520/30

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. The older and possibly original polychromy with some retouches.. A figure of the Virgin holding a book in Her left hand, designed for a frontal viewpoint. She holds the Christ child with Her right hand, and He is shown turning towards His mother and laying a hand on the open book.
With a short vertical crack behind the book and minimal wear. Mounted on a flat wooden plinth. Height 34 cm (without plinth).
