An 18th century Italian alabaster figure of the Virgin and Child

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. With original polychromy.. The composition of this figure of the Virgin - Her pose, the movement of the Child and the drapery - loosely follows that of the famous and widely venerated medieval figure at Trapani in Sicily attributed to Nino Pisano. The presumably original openwork socle displays an eagle as an armorial support.
The Virgin's right hand the Child's left arm lacking. The crowns are later additions. Minimal wear. Height 48 cm (with base).
