Two large gilt and lacquered wood figures of Seishi Bosatsu and Kannon Bosatsu. Dated 1747

Two large gilt and lacquered wood figures of Seishi and Kannon Bosatsu, both standing on a lotus base above an elaborately carved pedestal, the right respectively the left hand formerly held an attribute, most probably a lotus flower. The base of Seishi Bosatsu bears an inscription to the inside giving the address (Kyoto Muromachi ... chô) and the name of the carver (Dai busshi Okuda ...). Both figures with a large mandorla carved with clouds bearing an inscription in red lacquer stating that Seishi Bosatsu was donated by Chûbee of Tsu in honor of the former wife of Koshichiburô? of Tsu and that Kannon Bosatsu was donated by Nomura Kichibee in the year Enkyô 4 hinoto-u (1747) in the sixth month in honour of two other persons. The date of 1747 is also written inside the base of Seishi Bosatsu. Losses to the balustrade of the pedestal, the mandorla of Kannon Bosatsu repaired.
