An early Berlin KPM solitaire with Watteau scenes

Comprising teapot with lid and milk jug with finely painted mascaron spouts, sugar box, tray, teacup and saucer. The early decor with courtly park scenes and bouquets, rocailles and trellis pattern. Blue sceptre mark, impressed marks. Both handles of the tray and the handle of the teapot restored, the firing supports below the tray noticeably ground down, minor retouches to the cup, saucer, and milk jug. H teapot 12, W of tray 36.8 cm.

A present from Frederick II to Catherine II of Russia.
Auctioned from Dr. Witte Collection Rostock by Lepke Berlin, October 1930, lot 745.

Literature

Lenz (reprint), a service is mentioned in the archives of 2nd April 1729 which would fit the description of this one: "1 large dejeuner with coloured Watteau figures, purple mosaic-pattern and garlands, gilt rocailles and edging", which the King purchased for 150 Reichsthaler (vol. 1, p. 18).
