A Hamburg silver "jungfrau" cup

Interior gilt. The base formed as a hollow figure of a young lady supporting the upper cuppa. Applied with coloured stone cabochons. H 15 cm, weight 135 g.
Marks of Hilde Vollers, 1950s.

Following her initial training under Christoph Kay and Otto Stüber, Hilde Vollers was later taught at the Kunstgewerbeschule Hamburg and the Munich Lehrwerkstätten during the 1920s. Today, her designs can be found in the Frankfurter Museum für Angewandte Kunst and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, among others. “The artist favoured the use of applied silver wire for the decoration of her designs in silver, and often enlivened the pieces with single coloured stones, such as a chrysoprase or a piece of coral.” (Cf. Joppien, Hildegard (Hilde) Vollers, in: Cat. Frauensilber, Karlsruhe 2011, p. 167 ff.)
We cordially thank Dr. Rüdiger Joppien for his kind support.
