Willem Kleftijus, 2nd half 17th C.

Henry Harvard carried out extensive reasearch on Kleftijus for his seminal work on Delft faience published in 1878. Willem Kleftijus was born in Cologne and was among those faience makers who moved to Delft via Amsterdam, opening his shop on 15th October 1663 and becoming a master in 1677. Like all makers of faience in Delft, he produced in two different quality levels for customers with higher and lower budgets. His products are characterised by their reduced tonal range, fluted forms, and compact decor.
