A rare Japanese lacquer box

The black lacquer interior later, mounted in engraved brass, remains of a nailed ribbon to the inside. Finely mounted plain rectangular box decorated to five sides with gold powdered aventurine lacquer depicting birds in a landscape to the lid. The edges slightly worn, minor chips to the lacquer, some craquelure, a small shrinkage crack to the left side of the lid. H 8.5, W 17, D 10.5 cm
