A Venetian painted ceiling panel

Painted in oils on six pinewood panels. Comprising a curvilinear ocher-coloured border with portrait medallions and mascarons, a pale green section painted to resemble a dome, and a central oval containing putti against a gold sky background. The panels slightly warped, retouches, drilled holes from mounting to the edges. 265 x 205 cm.
1st half 18th C.

Due to the fact that they are bound to their architectural settings, and often dissappear or are destroyed along with them, complete ceiling murals are very rarely found. Small-scale drawn or gouached design sketches known as bozzetti appear much more frequently on the market.
