A carved wood figure of a Saint with a Book, presumably Upper Rhine Region, circa 1460/1470

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse open and deeply hollowed out. Extensive remains of perhaps partially original older polychromy, overpainted in places. A figure of a crowned female saint depicted standing in contrapposto on an earth mound base, holding an open book in her left hand. Her identifying attribute was presumably held in the lost right hand. She wears a pleated floor length gown and a long cloak falling in thick folds with curving hems.
The stomach area backed. Wear with minor losses. Height 92 cm.
