A carved wood figure of St. George, presumably South Tyrol, circa 1520/1530

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. Older polychromy. A figure of the Saint dressed in armour standing in pronounced contrapposto with his left hand on his hip. His right foot rests upon the head of the vanquished dragon, and he would presumably originally have held a lance in his extended right hand.
The fingers of the right hand lost, the tip of the left foot reattached. One block-like hollow to the reverse. Some wear. Height 116 cm.
