Southern Netherlands, mid-15th century

A mid-15th century South Netherlandish carved alabaster group

Carved in the round, with remains of presumably original polychromy. This small group depicts two men in long robes and headdresses standing next to each other. The younger figure carries a large sword, and the object in the hand of the elder is lost. The piece presumably originally formed part of a larger group.
With some short, hairline cracks. Minimal losses to the back right side. Minimal wear. Height 17.5 cm.
