Probably Upper Rhine-Region, second half 15th century

A carved wooden figure of a crowned female Saint, probably Upper Rhine Region, 2nd half 15th century

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and deeply hollowed out. With partially overpainted older polychromy. A figure of a saint designed for a frontal viewpoint standing on a moulded plinth. The saint is depicted with long, wavy hair, wearing a plain dress, the vertical pleats of which form an interesting contrast to the compressed folds of the cloak that she wears around her shoulders and which falls to the ground, spilling over the edge of the plinth.
The hands may be an addition. A crack to the back of the head. Wear with minor losses. Height 61 cm.
