Two bronze vases. 20th century

Two bronze vases, a) with a set-off shoulder and a wide neck, signed at the base Tomiyasu (=Aida Tomiyasu, 1903-1988), and b) of elegant slender shape with rings half way up the neck. 20th century. (2)

Aida Tomiyasu (1901-1987) studied metal casting under Yamamoto Azumi. He joined the Kosaikai art research society in 1942, eventually becoming its chairman. After the Pacific War, he was an active exhibitor at the Nitten, of which he became a board director and counselor. In 1948, his Nitten piece won the tokusen or grand prize.
