Two large lacquer trays. Nagoya. 20th century

Two large lacquer trays, one red, the other black with the two large characters "nichi" and "getsu" (sun and moon) in silver. At the base the inscription reading Asuke-kô hata-in (flag emblem of Prince Asuke). Tomobako, the lid inscribed Asuke Shigenori-kô hatajirushi saishô bon (Flag emblem of Prince Asuke Shigenori, vegetable tray), on the reverse inscription of the maker reading Kaneyama-ya Yabashi kobô. Nagoya. 20th century. (2)

Asuke Shigenori (1292-1332) was a defender of Emperor Go-Daigo in the Genkô war. The Asuke jinja in Toyota, Aichi prefecture, is dedicated to him.
