A brown lacquer tray inlaid with mother of pearl. Ming dynasty, 16th century

Of rectangular form, decorated with two figures in conversation beneath a flowering prunus reserved from an interlocking circular pattern. Above them, a full moon between wispy clouds. Flower heads and tendrils to the inside of the gently curved lip and small geometric flowers to the outside.
