A Mechelen wooden figure of a female saint, circa 1530/1540

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. Minimal remains of former polychromy. A standing, full-figure depiction of a saint in fashionable contemporary costume with puffed, slashed sleeves and a tightly laced bodice over a tasseled three-quarter length over-dress. She holds an open book in her left hand, but the baton-shaped attribute in her right hand is almost entirely lacking.
