A North Italian bronze pax panel, 1st quarter 16th century

Older patina. Formed as a stylised Renaissance altarpiece depicting the Virgin and St. John supporting the body of Christ in the centre. Based on a bronze design by Moderno, who was active in Rome and Northern Italy in the early 16th century.
The handle to the reverse lacking. Minimal wear. 17.5 x 12 cm.
