A 17th century Trapani alabaster figure of the Virgin and Child

Carved in the round. Minimal remains of former, presumably partial, polychromy. A figure of the standing Virgin designed for a frontal viewpoint. Christ is shown clothed and turned to face His Mother, who holds Him over Her left hip. The composition of the work - the Virgin's pose, the Child's movement and the drapery of the robes - all follow that of the highly venerated medieval figure of the Virgin at Trapani in Sicily, attributed to Nino Pisano.
The Virgin's right hand, the Child's left arm and the crowns lost. The reverse yellowed. Wear. Height 54 cm.
