An Antwerp carved wooden relief with the crucified thief, circa 1520/1530

Carved from two blocks, the backs of the landscape base and cross flattened. With older polychromy, presumably re-gilt. The flattened landscape relief forms a base for the separately worked cross and figure of the crucified thief, both of these elements carved in the round. Designed as part of a depiction of the Crucifixion of Christ, presumably for an altarpiece.
Very minor wear. 59 x 26 x 9 cm.
