A late 17th century Flemish carved wood depiction of Saint Sebastian

Carved three-quarters in the round and partially freestanding, the reverse flattened. With partially overpainted older polychromy.. A depiction of the martyr designed for a frontal viewpoint. He was presumably depicted bound to the tree behind him with ropes, which are not lacking. The work is characterised by the sense of movement in the Saint's dynamic pose.
Several cracks resulting in losses. Height 101 cm.
